Service Project Details
Join us as we head for Aneroid Lake nested high in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. We’ll depart from the Wallowa Lake Trailhead and backpack into Aneroid Lake. Pack stock will carry all food and group gear, giving us time for a ~6-mile hike into base camp with ~2900 ft of elevation gain. The trail provides spectacular views throughout the East Fork of the Wallowa River drainage featuring some of the high peaks of the Wallowa’s. Work will include the restoration of braided trail sections, addressing water drainage issues on the trail, improving a water crossing, and incised trail tread with the installation of check dams, drain dips, and water bars. Some lighter trail maintenance (logout and bushing), and campsite rehabilitation may also be on the docket if time allows.
In addition to the backpack in and out, volunteers must be able to hike 5-7 miles daily with up to 1000′ elevation gain carrying a daypack and tools.
Volunteers for this project will need to transport themselves to the trailhead. Parking is limited and carpooling is encouraged, with the option to leave some vehicles at a USFS facility.
