Service Project Details
Join this project in Colorado’s surreal Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness! This project will involve the maintenance and construction of stabilization and drainage features on the West Maroon Trail #1970. The project scope may also include the revegetation of braided trails and trail hardening where there are creek crossings. West Maroon trail provides hiking access from Aspen to Crested Butte via West Maroon Pass on the 4 Pass Loop.
Access to the trailhead is via Schofield pass FSR 317: while this route is passable to passenger vehicles when dry, it does involve some exposure and can quickly deteriorate when wet. In the past, we have carpooled some participants from the Quigley Creek pullout off FSR 317.
Because this project is not pack-supported, to volunteer crew will be expected to meet the day before the project to assist in the hike-in of food, the commissary kit, etc.
Project Leaders: Carter Bland and Karen Zietlow
This is a high-elevation project: 10,800-12,000 ft. We strongly encourage all participants in this project to get to the area a few days ahead of time to properly acclimate.
