Service Project Details
Wilderness Volunteers are excited to return to Shenandoah National Park for a second year. Our planned 2023 project is designed to distribute the labor of a Wilderness Volunteer crew among several divisions within Shenandoah National Park to accomplish the most amount of work, to allow the crew to experience many different aspects within a national park, and to ensure that the benefit of this crew is equally divided. Below is a detailed description of each workgroup that will support the crew and a description of the project.
Our planned projects will include two days of trail work (cleaning water bars, lopping the trail corridor, trash pick up) and two days of working with the Roads and Grounds crew (repainting gates, lopping overgrown vegetation around campgrounds, installing new picnic tables, cleaning fire pits, etc). This project is best suited for folks who like a variety of work and who are flexible.
Volunteers for this project must be able to hike 4-8 miles daily and should plan for tent camping in a designated campground (Big Meadows Campground).
