A VOLUNTEER PROJECT SUGGESTION!
Retaining efforts and restoration work for the 1% remaining Coastal grasslands.
Join Wilderness Volunteers and LandPaths of their first project together: California Coastal Grassland Restoration. With just 1% of our Coastal grasslands remaining in CA, we are passionate about retaining and restoring these amazing carbon sinks that provide habitat, pollen, and forage to a plethora of endemic and rare species.
Some tasks include the removal of invasive species including Medusa head grass and Yellow Starthistle, grassland encroachment work to prepare grasslands’ future “good fire” sites, and removal of aggressive species that disappear grasslands such as Broom, Coyote Brush, and Douglas Fir.
Our focus is on “slow restoration” and mimicking natural processes in the forest. We tend to use manual tools and people power to engage people on the land while helping restore the health of our native biomes. Some habitats of particular focus for us are our Coastal Prairies, Serpentine grasslands and chaparral, and our local Oak Woodlands.
Volunteers must be able to hike1-3 miles daily with ~300′ elevation change.
