Join us in the breathtaking Kenai National Wildlife Refuge as we work on the Skilak Lookout Trail replacing/building new bog bridges, boardwalks and working on small reroutes.

Service Project Details
Spending Working on the Skilak Lookout Trail replacing and building new bog bridges and boardwalks and working on small reroutes with in the first 1.5 miles of trail.
An 8-passenger van can be used to transport folks to and from the trailhead and even airport pick-up at Kenai can happen as well. Every participant will need to have the ability to get to the meeting location and campground in case COVID-19 restrictions remove the passenger van option.
A firm 60-day go/no-go will be in place for this project. Accepted volunteers will need to provide flight or travel information to project leaders between 50-59 days before the meeting date of the project to ensure commitment to the project.

Itinerary:
Sunday, July 14th. – The Volunteer group meets in the early afternoon at a time/place TBD (likely the Refuge Visitor Center). The group will go through check-in, introductions, and orientation, and will be transported by the USFWS to our base camp for the week.
Monday, July 15th. Workday.
Tuesday, July 16th. Workday.
Wednesday, July 17th. Workday.
Thursday, July 18th. Workday.
Friday, July 19th. Day off.
Saturday, July 20th. Break down camp, take a boat ride back to the main shore, drive to Kenai NWR HQ, goodbyes, and depart.

Free Time Details
There are a variety of trails within the Skilak Wildlife Recreation Area that offer spectacular scenic vistas and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities. There are additional hiking and sightseeing opportunities within a short driving distance. Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center will also be open. Kenai River Raft Trips are very popular and offered by a variety of local guides. Fishing for Red Salmon on the Kenai River begins in late June.
