The Manti-La Sal National Forest Heritage Program invites Wilderness Volunteers to join us in conducting archaeological survey in Milk Ranch Point.
Service Project Details
The Manti-La Sal National Forest Heritage Program invites volunteers to join us in conducting an archaeological survey. Volunteers will assist USFS archaeologists in ground-truthing and relocating archaeological sites on Milk Ranch Point, within the Monticello Ranger District and Bears Ears National Monument. Using available LiDAR data and existing site records, volunteers will learn the basics of site recording including site mapping, site form documentation, artifact identification and analysis, photography, and more. This work will occur in an area in the pinyon-juniper woodland transitioning to Ponderosa pine forest in the Elk Ridge area. We will camp in a dispersed camping area adjacent to Forest Road approximately 1 hour from Blanding, UT.
Volunteers will likely meet in Blanding and will carpool with other volunteers with 4WD or AWD vehicles to the trailhead. Other vehicles will be left in two spots that project leaders will share.
Project Leaders: Lee Cooper and Jeff Wright
