Service Project Details
This project will aim to address deferred maintenance on 2 wilderness trails in the North Fork John Day Wilderness: Lost Creek Trail (a first priority) and Saddle Camp Trail (a second priority.) Lost Creek Trail has not been fully cleared and brushed in 5+ years. Saddle Camp has been cleared recently but needs brushing and other tasks. The work will be a combination of people working as crosscut saw teams, with hand saws, and brushing to re-open and improve as much trail as we can!
Volunteers will base camp at Olive Lake Campground, one of the premier campgrounds in the Umatilla National Forest and one of the only lakes on the North Fork John Day Ranger District. The trails are accessed from 2 locations, one of which is a TH that leads directly from the group campsite, another which is about 2 miles down the 10 Road.
This is a medium elevation project: 6200′
