Service Project Details
The City of Rocks National Reserve acquired a large parcel of 105.08 acres of private property at the beginning of 2023. Initial efforts have been made to make an accessible road, parking lots, and basic infrastructure to enable visitors to begin utilizing the new property. At this time there are only cattle or wildlife trails throughout the property; in 2025 we will begin to construct the trail system on the new property.
In total, we are looking to construct 8 miles of new trails through the property. This project will focus on constructing pedestrian trails to Camel Rock, Graham Cracker, and Train Rock. These rock formations have the potential for the development of nationally significant rock-climbing routes and getting access to these formations is a large focus. These trails are approximately 1 mile in total length. Job duties include cutting and removing vegetation, clearing trail tread, and constructing erosion control structures. This project is very strenuous but the opportunity to construct a trail from the ground up is unique and challenging.
