Service Project Details
Join us for a week of removing invasive annual plants like the Sahara Mustard. Over the past several years, volunteer groups have continued this important work in hand-pulling Sahara Mustard and making a noticeable dent in the current population. Sahara Mustard has a long-lived seed bank, making annual removal drives the best method of control, and before they start to produce seed. Our volunteer crew may also travel to Cima Dome to remove old materials from a current restoration project. This would include hiking 4-6 miles on gentle terrain and removing chicken wire cages from dead Joshua tree plantings from 2021 and 2022. This is a great project for volunteers interested in making the jump from “active” to strenuous”.
We will base camp out of the Kelso Dunes primitive campground which is accessible by standard clearance, 2WD vehicles. For sites requiring 4WD, the NPS can shuttle our crew.
