Join us in the quiet beauty of New River Gorge National Park and Preserve! Our main project will be to rebuild a segment of the Castle Rock Trail. This will include heavy benching, root and rock removal, and stone construction using light rigging, hand and power tools, and other specialty stone working implements. Volunteers can expect to move/carry up to 50lbs at a time periodically throughout the project, and we’ll use tools or the buddy lifting system if appropriate. If time allows, we’ll work on an elevated causeway and complete drainage work on the Grandview Rim Trail near the junction with Castle Rock Trail. Light maintenance may also occur on other trails within Grandview.
Our volunteer crew will be based out of Camp Brookside, which includes several cabins with multiple bunk beds, restrooms and showers, a mess hall with a commercial kitchen, electricity, and great views of the New River.
