Service Project Details
Our 4-day long service project will focus on removing invasive grasses by using digging tools such as picks, rock hammers, and rock bars. Invasive grasses fill in the open spaces in the Sonoran Desert, crowding out native plants and competing for nutrients, water, and sunshine, in addition to being a huge fire risk. You’ll be able to see areas that have been cleared by previous Wilderness Volunteers groups.
Volunteers will stay in a remote dispersed site during the project and will be shuttled to/from the initial meeting point to the base camp at the beginning and conclusion of the project.
